Word Search Wednesday - The Word: Part One - Scripture

Wednesday Word Search – Word Part One: Scripture
by Wendy Elizabeth Middleton

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:13

A Word to the Wise

In the beginning the Word was spoken: “Let there be light…” and that Light was the light of men. “But the darkness has not understood it…”John 1:5 because “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
In order to fully understand the word of God you must listen to the Spirit of God.
We use words to communicate ideas. We speak words and we write them down. God also uses words to communicate ideas. The Scripture is the written Word of God.
All Scripture is God breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God speaking. From the first word “Light” to the last word “It is finished.”

The Printed Word
There is a power in the printed word. When laws are written down then everyone knows where they stand. Thou shalt not steal is pretty clear so both the thief and the victim of theft know which one is guilty. If the law did not exist, if it had never been written down, then the thief would not be guilty because he would not have broken any law.

It sounds absurd, because we all have an innate sense of right and wrong, but without the law we would have no way to discern right from wrong. For the man who believes that he deserves that which does not belong to him there would be no guilt without the law.

That is the purpose of Scripture, to convict us. It is the unit by which we are to measure our actions.

Written in Stone
Sometimes we give more power to the printed word than we should. Just because someone wrote it down doesn’t mean it was written in stone. Man has lots of ideas that he writes down, and not all of them are good.

Astrology predictions are in the paper, usually on the comic page. This always struck me as appropriate. Astrology is entertainment, unless you start making decision based on their vague predictions. There it is in black and white, and if you read it at the end of the day it quite often seems to be accurate.

But try this: Cut the predictions apart and remove the signs. Then read all of them and sort them into two piles; one marked Accurate and one marked Inaccurate. Now how many ‘accurate’ predictions do you have? Can you even tell which one is your sign?

There are people who swear by astrology, there are whole books dedicated to the subject. There are a lot of words written in black and white about the idea of astrology, but your life is not written in the stars. God did not hide His message so that only a certain few people could accurately discern it. God wrote His message in stone.

His Word is Law
The Law of Gravity and the Laws of Thermodynamics are governing principles under which the universe operates, mostly. Sometimes particles do weird things that seem to defy the laws that physicists have so painstakingly worked out. Still, for the most, part what goes up must come down.

The Law of God is the governing principle under which the Christian operates, mostly. In Deuteronomy Moses said of all the words of the law “They are not just idle words for you – they are your life.” Deuteronomy 32:47 But, “they have not listened to my words,” declares the Lord, “words that I sent to them again and again by my servants the prophets.” Jeremiah 29:19

The people the Lord was talking about had the words. The words were written down on scrolls. They had prophets speaking the words, “again and again,” but they didn’t listen.

When a child doesn’t listen it doesn’t mean that he hasn’t heard, it means that he has not obeyed.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching. 2 Timothy 3:16. But if the student doesn’t follow the instructions then he hasn’t learned a thing. Hearing the Word, reading the Word is not enough. We must obey. These are not idle words – They are your life.

Simple – Ain’t – Easy
But it sure is worth the effort
